Since SRC launched Pole Walking in April 2006 there has been over 300 presentations to an audience of over 3500 Seniors. Presentations were held in areas including Leederville, Mundaring, Burswood, Fremantle, Peel, Midland, Morawa, Geraldton, Carnamah, Albany, Busselton, Pinjarra, Mandurah, Newdegate, Northam, Coorow and many other areas.
These took place at Senior Centres, Clubs, Multicultural Groups, Have A Go Days, Probus Clubs, Retirement villages & individuals at the SRC Office.
Seniors of Western Australia are taking up Pole walking in increasing numbers and since SRC introduced it at the launch in April 06 over 500 seniors have taken up the exercise.
In short, Pole walking is the use of a specially designed set of walking poles to assist and further enhance everyday walking, for both fun and fitness. Pole walking has now been integrated into everyday life, a fun and functional way to exercise, practiced the world over, Pole walking is considered the Best All In One workout in the world.
Pole walking promotes health and well being in all aspects of life. It exercises the mind at the same time as the body and creates a wonderful opportunity to meet people and make new friends. It is particularly helpful to dementia sufferers and those with hip and back problems. It has been noted that people suffering from Parkinson’s benefit from Pole Walking.
