Bunbury LiveLighter Aged Care Games 6th April 2017

Picture the South West Sports centre full of Seniors all dressed in team colours plus carers and supporters, competing at the Bunbury 2017 LiveLighter Aged Care Games on April 6th 2017.

It was a fabulous day with 14 teams competing, the teams came together from Nursing Homes, Aged Care Facilities and Day Centres to compete in games specifically designed for people in care.

SRCWA would like to thank Bunbury Branch president Barbara Fleay and her team of dedicated volunteers along with the volunteers and staff from Perth head office for helping to make this event possible. Students from the Bunbury regional TAFE and SEDA school program also volunteered on the day which was greatly appreciated. The games were officially opened by Federal Member for Forrest, Western Australia Ms Nola Marino MP. Our lunch time entertainment was provided by local councillor Betty McCleary who had people moving and shaking to Zumba Gold.

The games were played in great spirit and included seated hockey, seated pass ball, beanbag toss and skittles. The carers game at the end of the day had representatives from each team competing in a fun event which was enjoyed by everyone.

Best Presented team was awarded to “Dream Catchers”, third place Village Raiders, second place “Crowea Club” and first place “Ocean Star Superstars”. Our oldest competitor was 102 year old Mary Birch from the “Dream Catchers” team.

SRCWA Bunbury LiveLighter Activity Information Day a Resounding Success

The LiveLighter Activity Information Day for Bunbury was a resounding success with around 200 people in attendance. Thirty Five metro and regional businesses/organisations provided information and activities for participants on the day. A big thankyou goes out to the South West Italian Club who supported the event which was held at their facility. A wide range of activities were available to try out including, Zumba Gold, Carpet Bowles, Croquet Exergaming and Table Tennis to... name a few. Bunnings ran a pot plant workshop which proved to be very popular, seniors were able to decorate a pot, plant it with a seedling and then take it home with them. Emergency Wildlife Care Bunbury brought along a few of their young charges “Bob the Black Cockatoo” and “Chevon the Joey” were a big hit, along with two young possums. Information on road rules from the WA Police and Young Drivers was on hand to provide up-to-date advice on current rules. SRCWA thanks and acknowledges all the hard work of: The SRCWA Bunbury Branch, Branch President Barbara Fleay and her team of dedicated volunteers in making this event a great success. Bunbury Regional Corrective Services staff and trustees for setting up and packing down the event.  SRCWA Head office volunteers and Staff, especially Phil Paddon State Vice President who was the MC for the day.
