Be Active
New Horizons Achievement Scheme

The Be Active New Horizons Achievement Scheme is a self development programme created by you and for you. It consists of:

Community Participation: Involvement with the community and individuals within that community

Personal Development: Exploring various social and practical skills

Active Recreation: Investigating unexplored areas of activity

The Be Active New Horizons Achievement Scheme is one of the strategies being implemented to help seniors increase their participation in all areas of life.

Find thirty minutes of physical activity on most days for good health


How do I join?

Register by contacting your local branch coordinator

A $10 registration fee includes your initial New Horizons badge and a journal for recording the hours you spend on each section.

Subsequent achievement badges for ‘Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum’ can either be swapped for the initial badge, or for $5, retain the original badge and receive another badge of your achieved level.

Select your activities (see below) then get someone to sign your book as you progress towards your bronze and subsequent levels.

Community Participation

  • Sports Fun Across Generations
  • School Volunteer Program
  • Active after-school communities
  • Help a person with limited ability
  • Teaching in remote areas
  • Help at a seniors club
  • Tree planting with your council or school
  • Be a SES/Bush Fire/Calm volunteer
  • Land conservation/clean up Australia
  • Hospital work including library, flowers or shop
  • Help at the local school
  • Meals on wheels
  • Tour guide at the Zoo or Museum
  • Join Volunteer Task Force

Personal Development

  • Do a TAFE course
  • Enhance your computer skills
  • Investigate: art, calligraphy, First Aid, photography, board games, handicrafts, creative writing, tracing your family history, woodwork, spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet
    There are classes, clubs, courses available for all of these activities

Active Recreation

  • Tennis/badminton
  • Dancing: Ballroom, Belly, Line and Square
  • Walking/cycling, walk the Bibbulmun Track
  • Fitness programs, weight training
  • Prime Movers, Lifeball
  • Golf, croquet, bowls, aerobics, swimming, water sports
  • Living Longer Living Stronger
