On the Thursday 5th March 2020 SRCWA held the LiveLighter Avon Aged Care Games, the day was a great success with 12 teams coming together from Brookton, Dowerin, Goomalling, York, Northam and as far away as Moora. All the games were played with much laughter and great enthusiasm.
Cr. Chris Antonio, President Shire of Northam opened the LiveLighter Avon Aged Care Games, and local singer Caitlin Morris performed a solo rendition of the National Anthem.. Entertainment during the lunch break was provided by Jim and Jenny’s Country. 78 year old Speed Skater Alan Eades amazed all those at the LiveLighter Avon Aged Care Games with a demonstration of his sport In-Line Skating.
Phil Paddon, MC for the day explained the games rules to the volunteers and then called the teams to the playing area and encouraged everyone to have a good time.
Congratulations to all the participants for coming and having a go, a big thank you to Karen Ducat and the volunteers from the SRCWA Avon Branch, Earth Solutions and SRCWA State Office who helped make the day a great success. Thank you also to the guys from the Fresh Start program who helped set up and officiate at the games. Due to unforeseen circumstances our group of regular volunteers was not able to attend at the last minute. Thankfully the amazing staff at the Northam Recreation Centre step in and helped set up and pack down the event. Thank you to the amazing staff at the Northam Recreation Centre your efforts and support helped make this event a success.
The winners of the Northam LiveLighter Aged Care Games were: – 1st Cunderdin WAGS 353 points, 2nd All Stars York 333 points & 3rd Goomalling Twilight Club 313 points. The Best Presented Team was York All Stars teams combined (dressed at Minions) and the oldest competitor was Moora Mavericks’ Roma Leers at 97 years young.
