“Be Connected” Seniors Tech Expo – 2024 Get online Week

The SRCWA Be Connected Get Online Week, Seniors Tech Expo, now in its Seventh year, was held on 18th October 2024 at the Vincent Community Centre.

At this year’s Expo SRCWA partnered with The City of Vincent who provided the venue and some of the additional catering. SRCWA was once again successful in securing a Be Connected Grant through the Good Things Foundation, this enabled SRCWA to once again conduct a very successful event with over 100 seniors in attendance.
SRCWA State President Graham Bennett officially opened the Expo at 10.00am, which included an introduction to each of the exhibitors, Martin Yates – TSS Program Manager talked about Google Translate and how beneficial it can be when travelling. Our guest speaker for the event was Ashleigh O’Reilly who presented on an increasingly important topic Internet Banking and staying safe on the internet and also spoke about the prevalence of Scams and how to avoid and report them.
Participants visited static displays and gathered a lot of interesting and informative information specific to seniors from:

  • ANZ Bank
  • Be Connected
  • Camera Electronic
  • City of Vincent Library
  • Consumer Protection – WA ScamNet
  • Department of Transport
  • Guardian Safety Pendants
  • Injury Matters
  • Innogreen Technologies
  • UnitingWA Financial Wellbeing Svc
  • WA Inclusion Project
  • WA Seniors Card

Participants enjoyed a healthy and delicious lunch as well as tea, coffee and water at the event.

Our grateful thanks go to the organisations and Government Departments who supported this event, which helped to introduce and encouraged the participants to the wonders of being online and encouraged them to “Try One Thing” to receive an entry into the “Free Draw”. Our winner on the Day was first time attendee Lyn Savage who visited Injury Matters and learned how to access “Falls Prevention Information via the Injury Matters website. A big thank you to the SRCWA staff and volunteers who worked hard to facilitate this event, thank you to Richard Dermody for photographing the event.
