The Avon LiveLighter Aged Care Games were held on 5 March 2026 at the Northam Recreation & Aquatic Centre, bringing together enthusiastic teams of seniors from across the Avon region-and even as far away as Moora-for a fun-filled day of friendly competition. Dressed in bright team colours and creative themes, participants jumped into games like seated hockey, seated pass ball, bean bag toss, and skittles. The atmosphere was buzzing, with plenty of smiles, teamwork, and laughter throughout the day.
Shire of Northam President Chris Antonio officially opened the event, congratulating SRCWA and encouraging all teams to enjoy themselves and “let the best team win.”
SRCWA State President Colin Steer hosted the day, guiding volunteers through the game rules and helping ensure the event ran smoothly from start to finish. The Games simply wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic volunteers from SRCWA’s Avon Branch, SRCWA Perth, and the dedicated group from Wooroloo. Their support-whether assisting teams, scoring rounds, or helping pack up-was invaluable. SRCWA also extends sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at the Northam Recreation Centre for their help in preparing the venue.
Before the competitions kicked off, Nathan George Ward performed a beautiful rendition of the national anthem and returned during the lunch break with more musical entertainment. Kevin Bennett also helped create a lively atmosphere, getting everyone singing along and adding plenty of fun to the day.
A delicious and healthy lunch-sandwiches, fruit, and muffins-was provided by SRCWA’s Avon Branch, giving everyone the perfect boost between games.
The Goomalling Girls – Twilight Seniors’ Club shone once again, taking out the Perpetual Trophy and Gold Medal for the second year in a row. The Narembeenies – Narembeen CRC secured the Silver, and the Quairading Cuties proudly claimed Bronze. Every participant received a medal in recognition of their efforts, many of which now sit proudly on display in their homes.
The Narembeenies also took home the Best Dressed Team Plaque with their colourful and energetic “Mighty Hawk” theme-complete with their very own mascot.
It truly was a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter, and wonderful memories for everyone involved.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all the volunteers who helped make the LiveLighter Aged Care Games such a success-we truly couldn’t have done it without you. A special shout-out to the Department of Justice Wooroloo volunteers for their extra effort and support.
We also want to express our sincere appreciation to our naming rights partner, LiveLighter Healthway, as well as the Shire of Northam and the Government of Western Australia, for their generous support of this event.
