This year we were pleased to have 8 teams participating at this years event. Staff and volunteers from the SRCWA State office travelled down to the Albany Aquatic and Recreation Centre to facilitate the games.
SRCWA Executive Officer Dawn Yates welcomed everyone to the gamers then invited the Mayor of Albany, Greg Stocks to give a short speech and then declare the games open. SRCWA State Vice President Colin Steer was our MC for the day.
Teams competed in modified games for people in care, and there was lots of laughter and spirited competition between the teams.
The oldest participant was a very spritely Mary Cartwright of the Denmark Diamonds who is 98 and a half years young.
Our winning team this year was Denmark Diamonds , Second place went to Hawaiian Hula’s 2 , with Clarence Conquerors taking out third place. West Coast Emus were declared best presented team by the Mayor.
As always the participants were delighted to receive their medals and the winning team was presented with the perpetual trophy (to hold for a year) , a replica trophy and gold medals to have the trophy for a year.
Staff and Volunteers were again well represented, we also had assistance from the local Albany Over 50’s group, Albany Volunteer Centre and City of Albany they were very helpful in setting up and packing down again, thank you for your support. We also had a group from the ACE Camera Clubs’s A-Team a Focus on Abilities program facilitated by Bob Symons for people of all ages livening with disability. Team members took photos and interacted with the seniors and carers participating in the games.
The Two Premiers Merv and Hugh did a great job of entertaining everyone with wonderful songs and finished with a sing along for the participants with songs like It’s a long way to Tipperary, Pack up your troubles … etc. Thank You Merv and Hugh.
