LiveLighter Aged Care Games – Metro 2024

Action from the LiveLighter Aged Care Games

Twelve teams from Perth’s Metropolitan Aged Care facilities took part in the Annual Metro LiveLighter Aged Care Games at the Belmont Oasis on the 8th August 2024. SRCWA Executive Officer Dawn Yates welcomed everyone and then handed over to State Vice President Mavis Owens who presented Past President Phil Paddon with a twenty years of service volunteer award from the Department of Communities. City of Belmont Mayor Robert ROSSI, JP officially opened the LiveLighter Aged Care Games for 2024. SRCWA and State Vice President Mr Colin Steer addressed the participants and was our MC for the games.
The teams competed in a range of games which were organised and facilitated by staff and volunteers from SRCWA. It was amazing to see people well into their 90’s willing to Have a Go at Seated Hockey, Pass Ball, Bean Bag Toss and Skittles.

The team taking out First Place was “Umbrella Chefs”, Second Place “Umbrella Farmers ” and was closely followed in Third Place by “Swan Ballet Catholic Homes”. Our oldest competitor at the games was 101 year-old Dulcie Cox from the “Swan Ballet – Catholic Homes”. Best presented team was “Aegis Balmoral – Back to the 80’s” who went to a lot of trouble theming the whole team.
Our thanks go out to the many volunteers who helped set up and officiate at these games. Thank you to the team from Wooroloo who helped with the set up, running of the games and pack down at the end of the day. A special thank you to participating centres staff who train and support participants.

The winning team Umbrella Chefs

During the lunch break we were treated to entertainment by Kevin Bennett, everyone loved the music and sang along.
As you will see from some of the images participants had a great day and there were smiles all round. Thank you Richard and Martin for your photographic skills.
Thank you to LiveLighter Healthway and Dept of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries for Sponsoring the LiveLighter Aged Care Games events.

Participants in attendance voiced their thanks to SRCWA for facilitating the LiveLighter Aged Care Games with one participant saying “We wish we could do this more often!”
