LiveLighter Seniors Activity Information Day – Belmont Oasis

On May 7th, 2025, Belmont Oasis came alive with energy and smiles as around 140 seniors and community members joined us for a day filled with fun, connection, and valuable information. Proudly sponsored by LiveLighter Healthway our naming rights partner, and brought to life by SRCWA in partnership with the City of Belmont. The event was all about celebrating healthy living, staying active, and enjoying everything our wonderful community has to offer!

We were thrilled to welcome so many local groups and services, each sharing their expertise and support. Visitors had the chance to explore displays from: Advocare, ANZ Bank, Audika, Auscare Group, Ballroom Fit, Befriend Inc, Belmont Men’s Shed, Belmont Park Tennis Croquet Club, Belmont Senior Citizens, Bloom Hearing, City of Belmont, COTA WA, Daily Living Products, Consumer Protection, Department of Transport, Diabetes WA, First Aid Kits WA, Helloworld Travel Belmont, Injury Matters, Innogreen Technologies, LiveLighter, MindSpot GP, Rapport-Holistic Home Care, SRCWA, Umbrella Community Care, Uniting WA, Financial Wellbeing Services, and WA Seniors Card.

It was a pleasure to kick off the day with a warm welcome from our Executive Officer, Dawn Yates, who gave a heartfelt shout-out to City of Belmont Community Engagement Officer Shubh Jhajhra for his work in helping to make this event possible. The event was officially opened by City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi, followed by Graham Bennet, SRCWA’s State Vice President, who got everyone excited to join in the fun activities.

And what a lineup we had! – Corn Hole Toss, Exergaming, Indoor Archery & Beanbag Toss, Game of Bob, Hart Sport Activities, Hover Soccer, Croquet, Carpet Golf, Carpet Bowls, Pole Walking, and more – there was something for everyone. The laughter and friendly competition filled the room, bringing people together in the best possible way. Lunch was a hit! The City of Belmont provided a delicious, healthy light lunch that kept everyone fuelled up and ready for more fun. After lunch, we were treated to a stunning Ballroom Dancing demonstration that had everyone clapping along. When it was time for the interactive session, participants didn’t hesitate to jump in and show off their moves.

THANK YOU to City of Belmont staff and volunteers, our incredible SRCWA volunteers and team, and the Wooroloo Trustees – your hard work and dedication made this event such a success.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the amazing support from LiveLighter Healthway, the generous hosting by the City of Belmont and the Government of WA. Your support helps us bring the community together and keep healthy living for seniors at the heart of what we do. Remember: “Make Healthy Your New Habit” and LiveLighter!

Thank a Volunteer Week

This Volunteer Week, we extend our deepest gratitude to the amazing volunteers of the Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc. Your joy, energy, and compassion shine through in everything you do. Your dedication to our programs and events across our State Office and Branch network throughout Western Australia helps create vibrant, inclusive, and engaging spaces for our senior community. It is truly inspiring. Whether you’re serving on a committee, supporting our head office, leading activities, offering a listening ear, socialising, making cups of tea, setting up and packing down events, recording them, or simply sharing a smile, your contribution makes a world of difference.
You help build a community where seniors feel valued, connected, and empowered, and for that, we thank you. Thank you for your time, your heart, and your unwavering support. You are the heartbeat of our organisation, and we are so lucky to have you as part of our team.

LiveLighter Aged Care Games Bunbury – thanks to our naming rights partner LiveLighter Healthway.

12 enthusiastic teams came together on Thursday, 24th April 2025, for a wonderful day of fun and friendly competition at the South West Sports Centre. The 2025 Bunbury LiveLighter Aged Care Games brought together participants from nursing homes, aged care facilities, and day centres across the region, all ready to take part in games specially designed for people in care.

A big thank you to Barbara Fleay, President of SRCWA Bunbury Branch, and her fantastic team of volunteers, as well as the hardworking staff and volunteers from our Perth head office – your efforts made the day possible! A special shoutout to the amazing staff and students from South Regional TAFE and Department of Justice Trustees for lending a helping hand throughout the event.

We were honoured to have the Hon. Nola Marino MP, Member for Forrest, officially open the games. Nola kindly took time out of her busy schedule to join us, and with her upcoming retirement from politics, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for her long-standing support of the Bunbury LiveLighter Aged Care Games. We wish you all the best in your next chapter, Nola!

The games were full of laughter, team spirit, and great sportsmanship, with activities including modified seated hockey, seated pass ball, beanbag toss, and skittles.

During lunch, the Bunbury Seniors Line Dancers brought energy and joy to the courts with a lively demonstration, and even inspired a few of our participants to join in the dancing!

The winners on the day were:-: First Place: Bunbury Gardens – Bunbury Gardens Care, Second Place: Blue Wrens 1 – Belong at Home Bunbury, Third Place: The Geriactives – MRSC Silverchain & Best Presented Team: South West Warriors – S W Community Care

A special congratulations to our oldest competitor, Phyllis Snelling, who competed with great spirit at 97 years young!
